Varjo XR-4 Reveal: Mixed Reality With Human Eye Resolution

Varjo has unveiled the XR-4, a groundbreaking mixed reality headset, saying that the view of the outside world as seen through the headset is “indistinguishable” from how the world appears with your own eyes.

It boasts of advanced features like 2880x2720 resolution per eye, 90Hz refresh rate, and a 115-degree field of view. On paper, it has more specs than the upcoming Vision Pro but keep in mind that the XR-4 is also more expensive than the $3,499 Apple headset.

The standard edition of the headset starts at $4,000 but if you want to experience the high-quality, “indistinguishable from natural sight” passthrough features, you’ll have to fork out $10,000 for the Focal Edition.

It's aimed at professionals seeking top-tier VR and AR experiences. The XR-4 integrates LiDAR for precise room mapping and depth sensing, ensuring a seamless blend of virtual and real worlds.

Its eye-tracking technology enhances user interaction, making it a powerhouse for various applications from training to design.

No Discounts On The Quest 3, Says Meta CTO

Meta's CTO, Andrew Bosworth, has confirmed that the Meta Quest 3's price will remain unchanged for the foreseeable future. Priced at $499 (128GB) and $650 (512GB), the headset includes the VR RPG Asgard's Wrath 2 for free.

Readers of our newsletter won’t be surprised at this announcement as we’ve discussed the production cost of the Quest 3 in our earlier edition.

Basically, Meta isn’t making any profit with the Quest headsets. Their plan is to subsidise headset costs and let VR go mainstream first before making a buck. That means, the Quest headset in your hand costs much more to make than what you paid for.

It’s time to develop a sense of appreciation towards Instagram doom scrollers as they’re essentially paying for your headset.

Arizona Sunshine 2 Is Coming On Dec 7

Vertigo Games has released a new gameplay trailer for "Arizona Sunshine 2" on Quest 2, showcasing the game's visual fidelity on the platform. Scheduled for a December 7 launch, the game will be available on PSVR 2, PC VR, and Meta Quest headsets.

The trailer, captured on Quest 2, reveals impressive visuals despite some downgrades from other platforms. Quest 3 players can expect enhanced resolution at launch, with further updates like real-time shadows on dynamic objects to follow.

The game features a two-player co-op campaign and a 2-4-player Horde mode, with additional maps post-launch.

I bought the Assasins Creed Nexus VR game and I loved it. I’m not a gamer but it was really impressive to climb atop of Italian and Greek architecture and do sword fighting on the Quest 3. It’s the first time we see an actual AAA title in a standalone VR. Unfortunately, there weren’t any Black Friday deals for the game, but if you want, you can get 25% off with my referral link.
