Supply Chain Analyst Claims Quest 3 Demand Is Way Below Expectations (Layoffs Incoming)

Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has reported that Meta's Quest 3 headset sales might not meet the company's expectations. Originally, Meta had a target of selling 7 million units by the end of the year. However, Kuo suggests that this number might be closer to 2.5 million.

Now we have to specify that analyst predictions are usually a hit or miss, so take it with a grain of salt. Interestingly, the Quest 2, priced at $300, had outsold all its predecessors, with almost 20 million units sold in less than three years. The Quest 3, despite its advanced features, starts at a heftier $500, potentially making it less accessible to some consumers. We should also take into account that the pandemic also played a crucial role in Quest 2’s success.

In other completely unrelated news, Meta is laying off custom chip engineers in its AR/VR divisions. We can speculate that it’s because Qualcomm turned out to be a much better partner than Meta initially thought. They surprisingly share Meta’s vision of a future filled with VR devices and also developed their custom XR and AR chips in association with Meta.

IMMERSED

Immersed Cancels 2.5K Visor As 96% Chose 4K Version (Plus, Free $100 Gift)

Immersed Visor, the ultra-compact productivity headset, has been generating some buzz ever since its announcement. It comes with features like OLED microdisplays, inside-out tracking, and HD color passthrough.

However, the company has now canceled its cheaper 2.5K per eye model. Why? A whopping 96% of customers opted for the 4K per eye model instead. Those who had chosen the 2.5K model will receive a special offer or can opt for a refund.

Yesterday, Immersed CEO Renji Bijoy announced in a tweet video that their content about Visor surpassed 5 million views in 1 week and to thank people’s support, they’re giving a $100 2-hour battery pack for all pre-orders.

Immersed's Visor, which is set to release in 2024, is a collaboration with tech giants like Qualcomm and Intel and promises to be a game-changer in the VR space

Workout Like It’s 2050! Supernatural On Quest Is Now $100 Per Year

Get ready to cancel your gym membership because Meta's fitness service, Supernatural, is making VR-based home workouts more accessible. Previously priced at $19 per month or $180 annually, Supernatural's new pricing is a mere $100 per year or $9.99 monthly.

This change follows Meta's acquisition of the fitness service earlier this year. Supernatural, which offers a VR experience akin to Beat Saber but tailored for workouts, is set to integrate with Meta's upcoming digital objects called Augments.

With this, users can have a digital portal next to their workout gear for easy access to Supernatural workouts. This move positions Meta to compete with services like Apple's Fitness+

MEME OF THE DAY

“What’s The Point Of Stealing All My Data Then?”

Have a great weekend folks.

I was a bit spooked by the Quest 3 sales prediction reports but as far as I know, the geniuses at Meta are not worried. They were already planning to release a cheaper VR headset next year. Plus, they just have to wait a few months until Apple convinces the whole world that VR is cool and Meta just has to sit back and count the money because the Quest 3 provides most of Apple’s offering at a cheaper price.
